Capped Rate Mortgage
This type of mortgage provides a certain amount of security in that a maximum rate of interest that can be charged is fixed, but this is only available for a specified period of time, usually 1 to 5 years.

Fixed Rate Mortgage
Fixed rate mortgages are similar to capped rate products in that they facilitate budgeting because you know that your outgoings will not suddenly increase. The fixed rate will not change throughout the entire term of your mortgage, which is usually up to five years.

Discounted Rate Mortgage
A discounted rate mortgage guarantees that you will pay a set amount below a lender's standard variable rate for a specified period of time. Whilst the standard variable rate goes up and down, the discount will remain fixed.

Variable Rate Mortgage
A variable rate of interest is charged in synchrony with the base rate set by the Bank of England. Accordingly, there is a gambling element with this rate, and there are also usually less special offers provided in conjunction with a variable rate mortgage.
